Overview
Instagram integration allows your agent to handle direct messages, comments, and other interactions on your Instagram business account. This provides a seamless customer service experience on one of the most popular social media platforms.
Step-by-step connection process
- Navigate to the Channels tab in your dashboard
- Select the agent you want to connect to Instagram
- Click the Instagram tab
- Click the Connect Instagram button
Authentication process
When you click Connect Instagram, you'll be redirected to the Meta (Facebook) authorization page where you need to: select your business; select your Instagram/Facebook page; select your Instagram account; authorize the necessary permissions. After completing these steps, you'll be redirected back to the dashboard where your connected Instagram account will be displayed.
Configuration options
Ignore Reactions, determine whether your agent responds to likes on posts, reactions to comments, and emoji reactions; enabling prevents responses to these.
Ignoring Comments, completely ignore all comments on posts: no responses, no quick replies, no private replies. Useful to disable comment-based interactions while keeping other features active.
Story Mentions, control whether your agent responds to reactions on your Instagram stories; useful to prevent overwhelming the agent with numerous story reactions.
Enable Follower Check, provides a special tool check_instagram_follower that verifies if a user follows your page. Define how and when to use it in your main agent instructions; enables personalized interactions and different responses for followers vs non-followers.
Quick Comment Reply, enables "private reply": when someone comments on your post, your agent can reach out via Direct Message. Leave blank for no comments; the agent maintains context about which post the comment related to; the person receives a message request they can accept to start a conversation.
Voice Messages, configure which voice is used to reply and whether voice replies are enabled. Reply Delay, set the delay in seconds between receiving a message and responding.
Limitations
Video file size: videos larger than 25MB cannot be uploaded directly, they'll be shared as a link instead. File upload restrictions: subject to Instagram's file size and format limits. Rate limiting: Instagram may impose rate limits on automated responses. Authentication: may require periodic re-authentication when tokens expire. Content compliance: all automated responses must comply with Instagram's terms of service and community guidelines.
