What the AI Website Widget is and who it’s for

The AI Website Widget is a chat window you embed on your own site. Behind it works your MyChatBot sales assistant, the same one that can answer on WhatsApp, Instagram or Telegram. Visitors write right on the page, without installing a messenger, and get a reply from an agent that knows your products, prices and policies.

It fits businesses where buying decisions happen on the website:

  • online stores answering product questions while the visitor is on the product page;
  • service businesses booking consultations, demos or appointments;
  • teams sending ad traffic to landing pages;
  • companies with customer accounts that want support to know who is asking.

The widget is an inbound channel: the visitor opens the chat and the assistant replies. Every chat lands in Active chats, next to conversations from your other channels.

How it works in MyChatBot

  1. A visitor opens the widget. The chat opens with your heading, logo and the greeting from First message agent sends.
  2. The contact form, if you want it. By default the visitor leaves a phone or email before chatting. Turn on Disable contact form to let them start right away. With the form on, Show client status lets them pick an option such as Regular Customer.
  3. The assistant reads your knowledge. It searches the Knowledge Base linked to it: FAQ, business documents, website links and product sources such as a Product Feed or Product Spreadsheet.
  4. It replies after a short pause. Reply Delay (0 to 180 seconds, 30 by default) lets the visitor finish a thought written in several messages.
  5. It acts, not just answers. Depending on the integrations you connect, the assistant saves contact details, sets a funnel status, creates a CRM lead or books a time slot.
  6. Your team sees everything. The chat appears in Active chats under your Widget ID, and the client card shows the page the visitor was on and their UTM data.

Key capabilities

Branding and placement

Set a Custom color, logo, avatar and interface language. Dock the icon to the left or right edge, adjust margins and scale separately for desktop and mobile, or use Fixed to full-screen view on phones. Excluded Pages hides the widget on paths such as /cart.

Ad-Oriented Widget

For ad landing pages, Ad-Oriented Widget Appearance replaces the bubble with a square widget that shows up to 7 rotating popup messages. Each popup has a User Template Message, sent on the visitor’s behalf when they click the offer.

Your own buttons and links

Add ?open-mcb-widget=1 to any URL on your site and the widget opens automatically, for example from an email campaign. Or turn on Hide widget icon and add the class mcb_widget_activator_button to your own chat buttons.

Recognizing logged-in customers

If your site has customer accounts, pass the user ID with data attributes or MyChatBot.identify(). The ID is signed on your server with an HMAC-SHA256 token, and the widget ignores identities without a valid one. Optional context, such as plan or last order, personalizes replies, but treat it as a hint, not grounds for discounts.

Memory about the client

Contact Details saves the name, phone and email a visitor shares. Client Context collects fields you define, such as budget or deadline, and keeps them for the same client across channels.

Channels and integrations involved

The widget is one channel of your Sales Platform assistant. The same assistant, with the same knowledge and rules, can also serve WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Facebook, Viber, TikTok, email, SMS and calls. Social Links add buttons to your profiles on Viber, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, OLX, Facebook and TikTok.

What the assistant can do depends on the integrations you connect:

  • CRM: KeyCRM, SalesDrive, Bitrix24, Kommo, Zoho, Salesforce, GoHighLevel or HubSpot, one CRM per assistant. The agent creates and updates leads; in KeyCRM or HubSpot each lead also gets a link back to the chat and an automatically filled source field.
  • Booking: Google Calendar, Altegio or the native MyChatBot Calendar. The agent checks availability and books the appointment inside the chat.
  • Orders: KeyCRM, SalesDrive, native Orders or Spreadsheet Orders for confirmed purchases.
  • No CRM yet: built-in labels and funnel statuses organize leads inside MyChatBot, and Follow-ups can target clients by status and label.

See how records stay aligned on the CRM sync page.

When a human takes over, and the limits to know

Your instructions decide when the assistant calls a person:

  • Operator notification flags the chat on the Attention tab while the AI keeps talking. With Flight Control, the alert with client contacts and a chat link also goes to your Telegram group.
  • Handoff to operator switches the chat to operator mode and moves it to the Operator tab.

Your team can also step in directly. In Handoff Control, choose a stop word or implicit handoff, where any operator message switches the chat to a human. Silent handoff keeps the switch invisible to the visitor, and auto return turns the AI back on after 24 hours or your own interval. More on the human handoff page.

Limits worth planning for:

  • Outreach campaigns can’t start chats through the widget. To reach a visitor later, collect a phone or email and continue on a channel that can initiate conversations, such as Email, SMS or Personal WhatsApp.
  • With Work Hours on, the assistant stays silent outside the schedule and doesn’t answer those messages later, so have an operator review those chats.
  • Replies draw from your plan’s sales-message balance. At zero, assistants switch off on every channel and don’t restart on their own: top up or wait for renewal, then check the status switch.

How to set it up

  1. Configure your assistant on the Agents page: role, knowledge base, tools and handoff rules. Test it in the Test Dialog.
  2. Open Channels, choose Website Widget and connect the agent with Connect agent to this channel.
  3. Fill in the widget copy, branding, placement and behavior. Enter Your business website URL and click Preview to see the widget over your site.
  4. Click Generate the widget code, then Copy script. Paste the first block at the end of the head section and the second at the end of the body.
  5. Reload your site, send a test message and check that the chat appears in Active chats under your Widget ID.

You paste the snippet once; changes saved with Update go live on the next page reload. On the Standard and Pro plans one sales assistant is active at a time; Multipro and above allow several. On Standard, Spreadsheet Orders is the only integration you can connect; CRMs, calendars and other tools are marked PRO. Compare plans on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a developer to add the widget?

No programming is needed beyond pasting the generated code once: one block at the end of the head section and one at the end of the body. After that, changes you save with Update appear on the next page reload, without reinstalling anything. Recognizing logged-in customers is the exception: it needs a token generated on your server.

Where does the widget get its answers?

From the Knowledge Base linked to your assistant: FAQ, business documents and files, website links, and product sources such as a Product Feed or Product Spreadsheet. If you turn on Web Search, the assistant can also look up questions your knowledge base doesn’t cover.

Can my team take over a conversation?

Yes. An operator can switch the AI off in the chat or, with implicit handoff in Handoff Control, simply reply. Silent handoff hides the switch from the visitor, and the AI can return automatically after 24 hours or a custom interval.

Will leads from the widget go into my CRM?

You can connect one CRM per assistant: KeyCRM, SalesDrive, Bitrix24, Kommo, Zoho, Salesforce, GoHighLevel or HubSpot. The agent creates and updates leads, and in CRMs such as KeyCRM or HubSpot each lead gets a link back to the chat. CRM integrations are not available on the Standard plan; without a CRM, leads are organized with built-in labels and funnel statuses.

Can the widget recognize logged-in customers?

Yes. Pass the user ID through data attributes or MyChatBot.identify() together with an HMAC-SHA256 token your server generates with the widget’s Identity Secret, which support configures for you. Chats are then linked to the real customer, and the agent can use any extra context you pass.

Can the widget message a visitor first?

Not on its own. The Website Widget is an inbound channel: the assistant greets the visitor with First message agent sends once they open the chat, and outreach campaigns can’t start conversations through the widget. You can add more entry points with ?open-mcb-widget=1 links, your own buttons, or popup offers in the Ad-Oriented Widget.

Can I hide the widget on certain pages?

Yes. List the paths in Excluded Pages, one per line, and the widget won’t appear there. You can also hide only the floating icon and open the chat from your own buttons.
